UK Just Voted To Allow Scientist To Create Babies From DNA Of 3 People

In an effort to prevent children from inheriting potentially fatal diseases from their mothers, British lawmakers just did the unthinkable. The House of Commons voted Tuesday to allow scientists to create babies from the DNA of three people, according to media reports.

The bill, which must be approved by the House of Lords before becoming law. Its passage will make Britain the first country in the world to allow embryos to be genetically modified

Health minister Jane Ellison started the debate by urging the House of Commons to “support the bill.”

“This is a bold step to take, but it is a considered and informed step,” she said.

Critics, however, call the bill “ungodly” and warn that approving the techniques could lead to the creation of “artificial babies.”

“This crosses a fundamental scientific boundary, since the changes made to the embryos will be passed on to future generations,” one critic of the bill said.

However, Ellison fired back, saying that “knowing that you could bring a child into this world for a short, painful life of suffering is not something I would want to do.”

What do you think? Do you support this idea?
