Clinton Foundation Donors May Pose Campaign Risks For Hillary

A recent wave of bad headlines over large donations given to the Clinton foundation may pose a campaign risk for Hillary Rodham Clinton ahead of the 2016 presidential election.

According to media reports, foreign governments have donated over $200 million dollars to the Clinton organization in the past two years.

The Washington Post reported last week that foundation has raised nearly $2 billion since the former president started it in 2001. About one-third of its donations of $1 million or more come from foreign governments or non-U.S. entities. The charity received money from the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Oman and others in 2014, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Many of the same donors to the Clintons’ political campaigns have given money to the foundation, the newspaper found.

The former Secretary of State, and Democratic front-runner has avoided the subject, but Republicans contend that foreign governments donating to a foundation led by a potential U.S. president creates unacceptable conflicts of interests.

Her allies say Mrs. Clinton can defend her work at the foundation because of its track record and history of tackling some of the world’s biggest problems, like AIDS and hunger, education, clean water, and the protection of endangered wildlife. However, the involvement of big money reinforces the GOP narrative that “the Clintons frequently mix business and politics.”

What do you think? Will Hillary distance herself from the charity to dodge the controversy?
