Despite Persecution, Syrian Christians Send a Strong Message With This BOLD Move

The raise of the Islamic State in the Middle East conflict has resulted in the persecution and killing of thousands of Christians, specially in Syria and Iraq.

But despite the constant threat by the terrorist group, Christian residents of an ancient Town in Syria have made a bold statement after erecting a large statue of the Virgin Mary in the same place it was before being destroyed by ISIS, reported AFP.

The statue is perched on the cliffs overlooking the ancient Christian town of Maalula on Saturday. Maalula is one of the oldest Christian communities in the world, where residents speak Aramaic, the language Jesus spoke, according to the report.

Assad’s forces retook the town from the rebels in late April, allowing the Christian community to bring back religious artifacts decorated with Jesus and other Christian images, The Blaze reports.

“The statue was a symbol of protection for me, and when it was gone I felt a huge loss,” a resident told the French news agency.
