The owner of a dog found buried alive up to its head with its lead tied to a sack of gravel was arrested in France after photographs of the horrific incident sparked outrage.
According to media reports, the owner of the dog has been taken into custody, and faces a heavy sentence if found guilty. The man said his dog had run away. But considering the dog’s age and condition, investigators dismissed his claim as “not very plausible” and plan on pressing charges.
The dog, a French mastiff, was discovered and then rescued on Saturday by a man walking his own dog in Carrieres-sur-Seine, west of Paris. The poor animal appears to have been buried in the thick dirt and dust in the waste land. The man’s dog helped dig the traumatized animal out and tried to comfort her.
According to French police, the owner will be put on trial for animal cruelty and could be sent to prison for two years and be forced to pay a fine of up to $30,000.
