Bensen was only 6 years old when his father, Sgt. Derek Johnson was shot and killed while on duty. In the 2-year anniversary of his tragic dead, officers hope to ease the pain for little Bensen and his mother. What they did will touch your heart.
As the video report below shows, officers arrived at the family’s Utah home to escort the 3rd-grade student to school. Bensen got to ride in a squad car alongside his favorite officer, Officer Timothy Herbert. Officer Herbert was the man who pulled Sgt. Johnson’s body out of the car that tragic day.
Officers gave Bensen high fives, hugs, and well wishes before watching him walk through the school doors.
“It means a lot to me that they have not forgotten and they care so much,” said Shante, Bensen’s mother. Watch Fox13 News report on the story.
I love to see these heroes in uniform helping to fulfill the role of Bensen’s late father. What an awesome gesture!
