There’s nothing more relaxing than the sound of waves lapping gently onto the shore – That’s why so many people listen to it as they drift off to sleep. But this “Sea Organ” in Zadar, Croatia takes those dreamy noises up a whole new level.
What may look as an ordinary seaside boardwalk is actually a remarkable piece of art. Beneath the concrete steps lies a sea organ, played by the waves as Mother Nature’s rush of water against the pipes make sweet hypnotic music that can put you in a trance.
This nature-based instrument, designed by Croatian architect Nikola Bašić, sits along 230 feet of the Adriatic Sea coastline. Each step contains five pipes that are installed into the cement and produce completely different cords.
Narrow channels connect them all, so as waves crash into the steps, the water pushes air through the pipes and creates a unique whistling sound. Enjoy, and share!
