102-Year-Old Dancer Sees Herself on Film for the First Time

Alice Barker was a Harlem Renaissance dancer in the 1930s and 1940s. She performed in such New York nightspots as the Cotton Club and the Cafe Zanzibar alongside notables including Bill “Bojangles” Robinson and Frank Sinatra. Recently, with help from some filmmakers, the 102-year-old dancer went back in time.

It has been decades since Alice Barker last danced on a stage. But after the 102-year-old finally saw video footage of her glory days for the first time, she wanted to get out of her bed to do it all over again.

She remembered some things vividly: the singers, their songs but mostly, the feeling of being carried away in the music.

When asked how she felt while watching the footage, Barker said: “Making me wish that I could get out of this bed and do it all over again.”

The video, posted on YouTube last year, was filmed in the fall of 2014 and has racked over 10 millions views so far! Barker is still alive and well, according to media reports.
