Dealing with diapers, tantrums, always running to work, and the never-ending house chores are nothing compared to the complex inner struggles of being a mother. So when I came across this viral Japanese ad, I knew I had to share it with you.
The ad was produced by Van Houten Cocoa to pay tribute to working moms. In it, several moms describe their vision of “the ideal mother” and compare it to their own parenting experiences. In contrast to the ideal mother, the moms interviewed say they feel like they’re always in a rush, questioning themselves and wishing they smiled more.
Then the moms watch videos of their own children describing them. The kids use words like “smiling,” and “gentle” or “always on my side.” It’s truly touching to watch.
If you are a mom, I want to tell you that you, right now, matter more than you might ever realize. You, your life, your giving of self.
