We at Tabooya, love to share stories of courage and heroism. So when we heard about this K-9 officer story, we knew we had to share it with you.
Last Thursday, according to ABC-13 Action News, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Department (LVMPD) was responding to a call in which alleged gunshots and someone screaming for help were heard coming from inside a house in Nevada.
The incident quickly escalated into a 12-hour-long standoff, which lasted into Friday, with the suspect barricading himself inside the residence.
After hours of trying their best to persuade the suspect to surrender, negotiators failed to make any progress, so the LVMPD’s SWAT team came to the decision to send in their K9 officers to raid the apartment. Little did they know what was about to transpire. The suspect, armed with a machete, attacked K9 officer Nicky.
But despite being stabbed several times in the head, Nicky didn’t retreat, nor cry or even whimper as he was being savagely attacked – rather than quitting, he managed to keep fighting and manage to bite the male suspect several times before taking him down until he was taken into custody.
Following the attack, Nicky, the much loved partner of Sgt. Eric Kerns, was rushed to the hospital where they performed surgery on his wounds. Thank goodness, the procedure was a success and now Nicky is on the road to recovery. As soon as he’s feeling 100 percent, he’ll be returning back to work.
“He’s a very good police dog, he’s a very courageous dog. He’s been up against some tough suspects, some big intimidating people, and he doesn’t care, said Kerns in a news interview. The two officers had been partners for three years.
This is the very definition of a true American HERO!
It’s so wonderful to see Nicky dealing so well after having survived such a perilous attack. Thank you Nicky and also your 2-legged partner Sgt. Kerns for all you do.
If you’re as happy as I was to hear that Nicky is recovering from his injuries so well, be sure to ‘SHARE’ this story of bravery with family and friends!
