6 Students from University of Detroit Jesuit High School came up with their own way to show their honor towards fallen heroes. They serve as pallbearers at unclaimed veterans’ funerals.
This first began when high school senior, Joshua Gonzales , thought of the idea. At first it started off as way to give dignity to the homeless population in Detroit. The boys would volunteer to be pallbearers at funerals for the homeless. But as more and more students became interested, the job would become more specific. The boys ended up becoming pallbearers for veterans who’s bodies went unclaimed.
“This was an opportunity to give something to somebody who finished their life on the fringe of society,” said high school Senior, Tom Lennon. “These veterans were men I have never met, but they helped make the country I live in safer and stronger. No matter who they were or what they did on earth, every person deserves a proper burial.”
