What would you do if you found a wallet full of money? Would you keep it, or would you do the right thing and return it?
One day, Tommy O’Connor, senior at Irvington High School in Fremont, California, was walking across the street to get to a convenience store. That’s when he noticed there was a wallet on the ground. He looked around and there was no one, so he picked it up. The wallet had $2,300 in cash in it.
Tommy told KPIX-TV, “I didn’t count it when I saw it. I just thought it was probably someone’s rent or something.”
After finding the missing wallet, Tommy turned it in to the teacher’s aide at the high school. She was able to locate the owner, who was a veteran.
Tommy’s mother soon heard of her son’s great deed. She sent him a message that said:

To make this story even more touching is the fact that Tommy’s family is in a bad financial situation right now. They could have used the money to help them out, but that’s not how Tommy was raised.
The young teen did receive a reward of $50 for returning the wallet to its rightful owner.
