On June 23, it was an ordinary night in Mandaue City, Philippines, but one rare sight caught the attention of Joyce Torrefranca: a child studying at a makeshift table on a sidewalk. She took a picture and posted it on Facebook. Little did she know that it would set the internet on fire and inspire a nation.
Soon after the image was posted, several media outlets managed to locate the boy, identified as 9-year-old Daniel Cabrera, at a store located close to where the photos of him were taken. His mother, Christina Espinosa, is an employee at the store, according to media reports.

Espinosa, who is a widow, and her three young children “have been living at the store ever since their house was destroyed by fire five years ago,” the report notes.
According to the Huffington Post, a local politician named Samuel Pagdilao has given Daniel a scholarship, and local police have also given the family money and buying them groceries.
When interviewed by AFP, Espinosa said that they were “overjoyed, I don’t know what they will do with all of these blessings,” adding that “now Daniel will not have to suffer just to finish his studies.”
Please share if this boy inspired you.
