Why bury it when you can donate it to those in need?

Chiquinho Scarpa, an affluent Brazilian businessman, started quite a buzz on social media when he announced on Facebook that he would be buried with his treasured Bentley Continental Flying Spur. Reactions in the comments of his post were negative throughout.

The $405,000 car was dug into a hole in the yard of his mansion, implying that he would have it in the afterlife. He stated that he drew inspiration from the Egyptian Pharaohs who were buried with their valuable possessions. Instead of donating it towards the needy, he would completely bury it. This was so that, when he passes away, he will only need to be laid down next to it.

Chiquinho Scarpa had drawn quite a reaction from the internet and those around him.

The millionaire even had the tenacity to post images of himself digging a hole in his yard, car in full view behind him. The negative reactions from his previous post had paled in comparison to what people were saying now. He was criticized for being crazy, selfish and wasteful for not giving it to charity.

However, he had expected this kind of reaction from everyone. During a press conference promoting organ donation, his response to his critics shocked many.

“I have not buried my car, but everyone thought it absurd when I said I’d do it. It is absurd to bury their bodies, which can save many lives. Nothing is more valuable. Be a donor, tell your family,” said Scarpa.

Scarpa had played social networks and media to show that burying something valuable would be quite foolish. He wanted to show that many people are already burying something worth much more than a car – organs that could save a life. He himself is an organ donor, and only wants others to do the same.
