The loyalty and courage of a dog can go so far. This 10-year-old Chow Chow/Golden Retriever Mixed named Che, showed exactly what loyalty and bravery means when he saved his owner from a house fire.
It was around 3 a.m when local residents in Port Richmond, Philadelphia began to hear barking coming from Andrea Bulat’s home. The barks were coming from Che, attempting to warn the neighbors that their home was on fire. The neighbors looked out and noticed the smoke coming from Bulat’s house.
“They heard Che barking, barking, barking, which is unusual for him to do in the middle of the night,” said Jen Leary, founder of the Red Paw Emergency Relief that works with firefighters. “They looked out the window, saw smoke, got their families out and tried to get the neighbor out but they couldn’t get the door open.”
When firefighters arrived they noticed Che was on top of Andrea’s back, protecting her from the flames. Andrea did suffer from burns to the body, but Che saved her from what could have been a fatal destiny.
Both Che and Andrea were taken to the perspective hospitals. Che was treated for smoke inhalation, corneal ulcers, and lung inflammation. Luckily, he didn’t have any burns and besides his chances, he made a magnificent recovery.
As for his owner Andrea, she is still making a recovery, but was very lucky that her dog was there to save her from what could have been worse.
Che is expected to stay at a friend’s house while Andrea makes a full recovery.
