Frida Kahlo Being in a relationship with an artist can a dramatic experience. Kahlo married, divorced and re-married painter Diego Rivera.

Frida was bisexual and had affairs with both men and women during her relationship with Rivera.

Julie Cypher The assistant director on “The First Power,” “Stand and Deliver” and “Dakota” was married to Lou Diamond Phillips, the star of “The First Power,” between 1987 and 1990.

Today Cypher is married again to a man, Matthew Hale, but from 1990 to 2000, Cypher was in a relationship with Grammy-winning artist Melissa Etheridge. With the help of David Crosby, the two women had two children, to which Cypher gave birth.

Wanda Sykes We hope the funny woman’s sense of humor carried her through her marriage to record producer Dave Hall. The two were together from 1991 to 1998.

A decade after Sykes’ divorce to Hall, she announced that she was gay and one year after that, she married her partner Alex Sykes.

Portia de Rossi Rossi was married to Academy Award-nominated sound engineer Mel Metcalfe for three years in the late 90’s.

Rossi came out in 2005 and has been with Ellen Degeneres since 2008.

Alice Walker The author of “The Color Purple” was married to Melvyn Rosenman Leventhal, a Jewish civil rights lawyer, between 1967 and 1976, with whom she had one daughter.

Walker went on to be romantically involved with Tracy Chapman, a relationship the two were rather private about.
