A woman in an elevator got the scare of her life after a Kentucky police officer accidentally shot himself in the stomach just inches away form her.

A CCTV surveillance video released on Monday shows Jouett getting in an elevator with a woman. He holds a box with one hand while attempting to adjust his pistol with his other hand. A second later the gun appears to discharge into his stomach while still in his hands.

The woman, while horrified by the incident, quickly grabbed her cell phone and called for help.

According to Cincinnati police, Erlanger Officer Darryl Jouett was heading back to his car after having dinner with his wife when the incident occurred on Saturday. The officer is recovering from injuries and is expected to make full recovery, reported WCPO.
