Dr. Ben Carson said he “absolutely” believes being gay is a choice during an interview with CNN wednesday.

The potential candidate in the 2016 GOP presidential primary argued that “prisons prove people choose to be gay.”

“Because a lot of people who go into prison go into prison straight — and when they come out, they’re gay. So, did something happen while they were in there? Ask yourself that question,” Carson said.

The American Psychological Association says “there is no consensus among scientists on how a person’s sexual orientation is developed.”
