A first-century dwelling discovered beneath a convent in Nazareth, Israel, could have been Jesus’ childhood home, according to Dr. Ken Dark of the Nazareth Archaeological Project.

According to media reports, Dr. Dark and his team discovered what is said to be a first-century courtyard house, complete with doors and windows, partially carved out of the living rock.

The group also unearthed limestone containers, which can be koshered, which also suggests a Jewish family had lived in the house.

Dr. Dark argues that although the evidence can’t prove Jesus grew up in the house, it does suggest it’s possible.

“Was this the house where Jesus grew up? “There is no good archaeological reason why such an identification should be discounted,” he told The Huffington Post.

“Perhaps the Byzantines were correct in identifying it as where Jesus was raised, but we have no way of telling if that was so,” he added.

According to the Bible, Jesus grew up in Nazareth, before leaving his hometown to preach the Gospel. Nazareth is now a predominantly Arab city of about 60,000 people, the majority of them Muslim.
