We at Tabooya just love sharing stories of amazing and kind-hearted people, just like this selfless woman who works every day for the benefit of the needy.
Lauren Puryear, a 29-year-old New Jersey woman, has been obsessed with couponing for quite some time now. However, her obsession doesn’t stem from of the potential money she could save on her own groceries, but rather how she could impact thousands of those in needs.
Puryear, a single mother of a 5-year-old boy, spends her time off work volunteering and feeding the hungry. She also holds four degrees, including a Ph.D. in psychology. It’s clear that Puryear is a hard-working individual.
Being a mental health clinician, Puryear knows how impactful helping others can be. She wasn’t the first one in her family to know it either. Puryear’s grandmother was an strong advocate of selflessly helping others in need.
Following her grandmother’s footsteps, Puryear started an organization called ‘For The Love of Others’. Their mission statement is “to empower, enrich and enhance the lives of people from all backgrounds through providing opportunities to enable them to live a purposeful life.” Ever since it’s origin, Puryear and other kind-hearted individuals have been doing their best to change the lives of those down on their luck.

Puryear has spent years helping and feeding the homeless. Although she was already buying food in bulk from stores like Costco, there was so much more potential with couponing – she could even get some of the groceries for free.
“There are coupons in the Sunday paper, or online that you can print … so I collect as many as I can, match them to the store and that is how I am able to get the items for free”, said Puryear.

On August 18th, she and a group of volunteers got together to obtain 10,395 pounds of food – all going to over 5,000 families in need. Although couponing that many pounds of food can seem like a daunting task, Puryear thinks it’s all worth it in the end.
“The joy of helping other people does not compare to any other accomplishment in my life,” said Puryear. Since she began, Puryear has delivered thousands meals and doesn’t plan to stop anytime soon.

All the while, she’s doing her best to be a good mother as well. She’s passing the values of her grandmother to her son – to help others in need and to make the world a better place for everyone.
