New Drug Removes The Need For Sleep, With No Apparent Side Effects

Published on Apr 10, 2015

Sleep may become a thing of the past, according to a recent article published by Wired.

For centuries, stimulants have been used to combat sleepiness, but they often have side effects, including raising blood pressure and mood swings. But according to researchers, that is about to change.

Scientists have developed a nasal spray that targets a key brain hormone to ‘cure’ sleepiness, with no apparent side effects.

The drug successfully eliminated sleepiness in sleep-deprived monkeys, allowing them to “perform like well-rested monkeys on cognitive tests, with no apparent side effects.”

If the medication is approved for humans, it would be a dream come true for millions of tired coffee drinkers.
