Police officers all across the nation deal with split-second decisions everyday that mean life or death. In a time when cops are under constant scrutiny, seeing what this rookie officer did under extreme pressure is really encouraging.
The clip below shows the dramatic scene captured by New Richmond police officer Jesse Kidder’s body camera as he aims his weapon at 27-year-old Michael Wilcox, who was wanted for allegedly killing both his girlfriend and best friend in separate locations.
As you can see, Wilcox charges the officer several times. Each time, the officer runs backward while keeping his handgun aimed at the suspect, urging him to “STOP!” and surrender.
“I wanted to be absolutely sure before I used deadly force,” Officer Kidder later told WLWT-TV, the NBC affiliate in Cincinnati.
“Officer Kidder would have been justified in shooting the suspect,” police chief Randy Harvey said in a statement on the department’s Facebook page.
“His life was placed in immediate danger and I am proud to say he used great restraint at the risk of his own safety,” he added.
Michael Wilcox, is lucky to be alive. But now he will face justice for his crimes.
