Sailor Taylor Morris was an audacious kid who loved adventure. His calm demeanor under pressure allowed him to join the Navi’s EOD –– Explosive Ordinance Disposal unit, where he was extensively trained to attack, disable or detonate unexplored explosive devices, including weapons of mass destruction.
Taylor was at the top of his game, but he never hesitated to put his life on the line to save the life of others. In 2012, the 23-year-old sailor led a team of Army Special forces to a classified location. Sensing danger, he decided to walk ahead of his unit. That’s when he stepped on an IED. The device exploded underneath his body, blowing off his limbs. It was a miracle he survived the blast.
According to the US Navy, Taylor became the fifth person at the hospital to survive a four limb amputation. After all this trauma, Taylor embarked in a long and painful recovery with the same boldness and calm under pressure that has always characterize him.
But what makes Taylor’s saga even more remarkable, is the inspiring love story behind his resilience. Throughout Taylor’s recovery, his girlfriend of nine years, Danielle has always been by his side. In 2014, Taylor proposed to his high school sweetheart, and she said ‘YES!’. The country was so inspired by this audacious couple that their story went viral.
