Turkish Bride & Groom Spend Their Wedding Day Feeding 4,000 Syrian Refugees

Weddings are always life-changing events, and for most people, that special day is ‘their day.’ However, this generous couple decided to make it about others. Instead of enjoying a lavish banquet or reception to celebrate their marriage, this Turkish bride and groom spent their wedding day feeding 4,000 hungry Syrian refugees.

Newlyweds Fethullah Üzümcüoğlu, 24, and Esra Polat, 20, from Turkey, used the money they had received for the wedding to help Turkish charity Kimse Yok Mu (KYM) feed the refugees, and spent ‘their day’ behind the counter, still dressed in their wedding attire, feeding people.

Turkey has been a sanctuary for more than a million Syrian refugees since the conflict began the war-torn in 2011, according to the United Nations.

“Seeing the happiness in the eyes of the Syrian refugee children is just priceless. We started our journey to happiness with making others happy and that’s a great feeling,” the couple said in a statement through KYM.
