New Technology Lets You Connect Your Mind To The Internet And Download Information Into Your Brain

The world has witnessed a wave of amazing technology in the last decade. Most recently, auto giant Lexus stunned the internet with a mind-blowing hoverboard that could lead to future flying cars. But can you imagine a world where you can connect your mind directly into the internet and download information straight to your brain?

This concept sounds like pure science fiction. But, according to a recent report, government researchers are already working on it.

Scientists at DARPA –– Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, the government agency that helped create the internet –– are developing a ‘cortical modem’, a new technology that leverages all of the advances we’ve seen in engineering and computer science over the past 50 years with the recent breakthroughs in genomics, neuroscience, for that purpose, according to Dr. Alicia Jackson, deputy director of DARPA Biological Technologies Office (BTO).

The ‘cortical modem’ is a direct neural interface that will allow for the visual display of information without looking a the computer,” she said.

The Science Channel explored this concept in the video below:

This new technology, combined with the first noninvasive human-to-human brain interface developed by researchers at the University of Washington is bringing them closer to their goal.

Researchers recently have performed what they believe is the first , with one researcher able to send a brain signal via the Internet to control the hand motions of a fellow researcher.

“The Internet was a way to connect computers, and now it can be a way to connect brains,” Stocco said. “We want to take the knowledge of a brain and transmit it directly from brain to brain.”

The researchers captured the full demonstration on video recorded in both labs. The following version has been edited for length. This video and high-resolution photos also are available on the research website.
