Eight years ago, the world lost a beloved friend and a family lost their father. Steve Irwin was a daring, exciting and warm personality on television, but his relationship with his family was something special and they miss him every day.

During a recent episode of Dancing With The Stars, Bindi Irwin, Steve’s daughter, finally found the strength to opened up about the loss of her father. Even after so many years, Bindi never forgot who her father was and who she hoped to be.

“My dad was my hero,” she says. “I can remember being little and thinking, ‘the one thing I want is to be just like dad when I grow up…’ and I still feel like that.”

In the video below, Bindi dedicates her performance to honor her father. The beautiful dance she choreographed with Derek Hough give a little glimpse into the life of the man so loved by audiences worldwide.
