Women Wearing Burqa Put On Notice After New Rules Placed In Switzerland

Females Muslims in Switzerland have been put on notice after a local government unanimously approved a ban on wearing burqa in public places, reported the Daily Mail.

Under the new rules imposed by the Swiss state of Ticino, women will be banned from wearing the burqa in shops, restaurants or public buildings. The burqa, pictured below, is worn by women in most Muslim countries and covers the body from head-to-toe.

According to the report, women wearing a burqa will be fined £6,500 (about $10,000 USD).

“Visitors will be informed at airports and by customs officers at the Italian border it is illegal for people to hide their face under a burqa or niqab, while in the state,” the report highlights.

A similar ban led to uprisings from local Islamic groups in France, where protestors believe the bans are acts of discrimination.
