For one mother and child, however, the MRI represents something completely different and truly amazing.

New mother Rebecca Saxe is a neuroscientist at MIT, she is also a mother of a baby boy. Her curiosity as a scientist but her sense of duty as a mother led her to decide to get an MRI with her son.

This particular MR image, though, was not made for diagnostic purposes. No one had ever made an MRI image of a mother and child. So she wanted to see it.

According to a recent article in the Smithsonian, scientists at MIT reconfigured a magnetic resonance scanner to capture the mother and her baby, but they never expected the resulting image would leave so many stunned.

The image gives an intriguing, yet captivating look at the bond between mother and child.
