Brazilian mother Rosamere Fernanda De Andrade is often mistaken for her own children’s nanny because they look so different. But she totally understands.
When Ms De Andrade held her newborn baby daughter fro the first time, she assumed there had been a terrible mistake. She is black, but her baby girl had white skin, blonde hair and blue eyes. Anyone would be confused!
She became even more convinced that there has been a ‘mixed-up’ when her second son was born and he was black! However, there was not mistake. While looking different than your own children can be confusing, Ms de Andrade and her then husband Joao, both African Brazilian, later learned that their first daughter suffered from the rare genetic condition, albinism.
Ruth, who is now 14, was born without any skin pigment and looked considerably different to her mother. According to The National Organization for Albinism and Hypo-pigmentation, albinism is a condition causing one to have “little or no pigment in their eyes, skin, or hair.”
Since having her first child, Ms de Andrade, 31, has given birth to two other albino children, Estefani and Kauan, as well as three other children who are black. She said the she is often mistaken for the albino children’s nanny.
