Many young girls dream about their wedding day, they just don’t imagine it happening when they are only 12-years-old. Unfortunately, tens of thousands of underage girls are forced into marriage every day.

In an effort to bring awareness and denounce this disturbing practice, Plan Norway filmed this powerful PSA for UN’s International Day of the Girl Child,

The video starts with 12-year-old Thea walking down the aisle to marry a 37-year-old man named Geir. Hundreds of people attending the ceremony are shocked to see the young girl. When the priest asks her if she wants to marry, she emphatically shakes her head “no” and walks away, stunning everyone.

While the scene in this video is a dramatization, it’s nevertheless a stunning moment, when you realize that tens of thousands of underage girls are forced into marriage every day in real life. Sadly, those girls don’t have the support or resources to refuse the marriage like Thea does.
