Study: Women Need More Sleep Than Men, And The Reason Is Truly Revealing

It’s commonly thought that we all need around eight hours sleep. But in reality, there’s no one-size-fits-all number when it comes to getting some rest. Apparently, women actually need more sleep than men, according to a new study.

The research, conducted by Professor Jim Horne, director of Loughborough University’s Sleep Research Center, revealed that women need more sleep than men. The reason? Women’s brains are more complex than men’s.

“Women’s brains are wired differently from men’s and are more complex, so their sleep need will be slightly greater,” professor Horne said.

The study also suggests that women are better at tackling multiple problems at once than men.

“Women tend to multi-task – they do lots at once and are flexible – and so they use more of their actual brain than men do. Because of that, their sleep need is greater,” Prof Horne said.

According to Horne, a man who has a complex job that involves a lot of decision making and lateral thinking may also need more sleep than the average male. “Though probably still not as much as a woman,” he added.

“For women, poor sleep is strongly associated with high levels of psychological distress and greater feelings of depression. In contrast, these feelings were not associated with the same degree of sleep disruption in men.”

So ladies, it’s time to go to bed.
