It Looks Like a Large Lima Bean, But What This Man is Holding In His Hand Is Far More Special

In nature, there are some bizarre shapes and colors, but some of the most striking variations are found in the chameleons. These colorful lizards are known for their long, sticky tongue; and incredible ability to change their color. Chances are you’ve seen plenty of cool chameleon videos on the Internet, but few showcase their beauty quite like this one.

Chameleons are great at climbing, which makes them expert hunters when combined with their stereoscopic vision. But even more fascinating, perhaps, is their reproductive process.

When the eggs are ready to be laid, the female climbs down to the ground and digs a hole. She deposits the eggs in the hole, buries them, and leaves the nesting site. When they’re nearly ready to hatch, each egg is stuck onto a tree branch with the help of its sticky membrane. From there, the eggs hatch and the baby chameleons immediately learn to climb.

The video below gives us a rare glimpse at this miraculous process. The tiny egg in the man’s hand looks like an abnormally large lima bean. But when the tiny green head starts poking its way out, you’ll witness a truly special moment in the life of a chameleon.

Some viewers have expressed concern that it was allowed to hatch on a human’s hand. But, as you’ll see, it doesn’t appear to stop this little one from climbing like a pro!
