For over 20 years, Officer Rance Quinn of The Kansas City Police Department has dedicated his life to serving and protecting. But, like many police officers these days, he has been feeling a waning lack of support for the work he does, and the recent criticism directed toward cops is finally starting to get to him.

“It just seems like there’s a lot of anti-police type of activity going on,” he told ABC News. “I know we’re unwanted but it makes us feel like we’re under-appreciated.”

However, what happened two weeks ago left him profoundly touched.

Quinn said that he and Captain George Sims stopped in a neighborhood Chili’s restaurant for a late lunch when a girl, about 15 years old, stopped by their table and set down a napkin with a handwritten note that said: “Thanks for keeping us safe.”

“She slid it down and kept on walking with her family,” Captain Rance Quinn of the Kansas City Police Department told ABC News. “When we looked over and she was by the door, I gave her a thumbs up and she gave a little smile.”

Later, the waitress informed the officers that the girl’s family had paid for their meal.

Quinn took a photo of the napkin and shared it on his personal Facebook page where it has gone viral.

“I just wanted it to get around that this young lady did this,” Quinn said. “I like the fact that it’s causing people to thank their neighborhood police officers.”

He added: “That’s a fantastic thing because a lot of times officers are like, ‘Why am I doing this job anymore?’ The climate nowadays is kind of anti-police, so this is a breath of fresh air.”
