These Photos Of Abandoned Olympic Sites Will Leave You With An Eerie Feeling

Once any Olympic season ends, many will forget that the large stadiums and accommodations built for the event will never hold the same amount of staff, spectators and competitors ever again. While they may be repurposed, some of the buildings just might end like the sites in these pictures.

They all used to be packed with many fans cheering for their country’s athletes to get the gold medal, but now they are all empty, abandoned, and crumbling to pieces. As they erode away, graffiti artists, bikers and explorers are what these sites attract now.

To say the least, these photos are quite eerie.

Cortina D’ampezzo, Italy

First up is the ski jump tower from the 1956 Winter Olympics. The wooden structure looks worn, yet untouched after many years.

From the 1984 Winter Olympics, the bobsleigh track was soon vandalized by graffiti artists throughout, and now adventurous bikers ride their way down the track.

Here remains the olympic sports complex of the 1984 Winter Olympics – the grounds have been repurposed as a graveyard.

The bobsled track has less graffiti at the end, but has not been maintained since the event’s end. The only thing that moves the debris and dirt is the tires of the bikers making their way down the track.

It’s difficult to tell this was once the ski-jump at the 1984 Winter Olympics. It remains in disarray.

Athens, Greece

The 2004 Summer Olympics Venue is littered with barricades outside the main stadium.

The flag posts for the olympic event are empty, leaving an uncanny scene. What was once symbolic for unity during the international event is now forgotten.

The main swimming pool looks to be maintained, but the surrounding areas are unmaintained and falling apart.

The baseball stadium built for the 2004 Summer Olympics was once covered with green grass, but it now has been overtaken with weeds and dryness. If you look closely, you’ll notice that the once vibrant blue seats have been bleached by the sun – only the covered ones maintained their color.

The stands from the kayak and canoeing venue are overrun with vegetation. Still beautiful nonetheless.

Berlin, Germany

Here is one of the swimming pools from the 1936 Summer Olympics. What was once a state-of-the-art facility is now deserted. Grime covers everything.

Beijing, China

The outside of the 2008 Summer Olympics venue is starting to tear away. Beach Volleyball was played here.

I couldn’t help but look at these in awe. Please SHARE this if you thought the same!
