Kasey Simmons, a 32-year-old man, will go the extra mile to make any person’s day a little better – a little bit can go a long way. However, it seems as someone else decided to return the favor for this Applebee’s server.
A customer had walked into a Applebee’s restaurant where Simmons works. As Simmons took their order, the person decided to only order the cheapest drink they had, and the total bill was only $0.37.
“They ordered the cheapest thing on the menu,” said Simmons. “Flavored water.”
Despite only being a $0.37 bill, the tip left was $500. Left beside the bill was a note written on a napkin explaining it all.
The previous day, Simmons had gone to the grocery store. As he approached the checkout line, he noticed a disheartened and depressed elderly woman standing nearby – Simmons knew something wasn’t right. While other shoppers simply ignored her, Simmons decided to step out of the checkout line and ask her if everything was alright.
Although the woman did not reveal what had caused her such grief, Simmons continued to talk with her. He did everything in his power to cheer her up, and even decided to pay for her groceries.
“It was only $17, but it’s not about the money,” said Simmons. “It’s about showing someone you care.”
Soon, the two parted ways. The woeful woman’s spirits were lifted – so much so that her daughter sought out to find this waiter.
The $500 tip was left by the daughter after visiting the restaurant, and the note left by her describes this:
“On one of the most depressing days of the year, the death of my father’s 3-year-anniversary, you made my mother’s day wonderful… You insisted on paying [and] told her she is a very beautiful woman… I have not seen this woman smile this much since dad died. My mother did not need you to help her, but you made her year.”
The elderly woman was saddened on the anniversary of her husbands death, and Simmons’ act of kindness made her day significantly better. The daughter had wanted to let Simmons know how impactful his act had been, and decided to return the favor.
A little kindness goes a long way!
