Naked Hamster Gets Tiny Knitted Sweater To Keep Warm During The Winter

During the winter time land mammals tend to keep warm because of their thick coat of fur. For some mammals that task is quite impossible since they can’t grow an spec of fur in their entire body.

Silky is a hamster that was born without any fur. She arrived at the Oregon Humane Society in Portland, Oregon due to an eye infection. It was going to be a few days before she was eligible for adoption.

Silky’s lack of fur meant that she needed to stay in a special habitat in order to stay warm. But she couldn’t spend the whole time inside a closed up box. That’s when Selene Mejia, an animal care technician, decided to make her a tiny sweater.

This would make sure that Silky would stay war outside her enclosed habitat.

It wasn’t long before she found a forever home. Matthew Sears had been standing in line to adopt the cute tiny hamster. He describes himself as “hair challenged,” just like Silky.

“I had a wonderful experience visiting the shelter,” he says. “If anyone ever feels bad they should visit there and meet all the happy people. Even if I had not adopted, it was a good experience: there was so much love.”
