This Ohio judge is taking the internet by storm by his unique and unusual sentencings. They are all under the law and justified. The thing is that they are quite different than what you would normally see.
Judge Michael Cicconetti recently used one of his unusual sentencings on a woman who had abused her dog.
Alyssa Morrow had left her dog, Moose, at her filthy home alone for a week. She didn’t check up on the dog or anything. Eventually the police was called to rescue the dog from the home. Alyssa was charged with animal cruelty as a result of her lack of care.
The poor dog was basically left to die in a house full of filth. Alyssa was a hoarder and the house was not fit for anyone to live in.
Judge Cicconetti felt that Alyssa should feel exactly the way Moose did while living with her.
After pleading guilty, Alyssa was given two choices: Spend 90 days in jail or spend eight hours in the stinkiest place at the local dump.
The Judge said, “Maybe you should get a little taste of that… I want you to live like Moose, and in order to do that I want you to go down to the county dump… and I want them to find the stinkiest smelliest god-awful odor place they can find in that dump and I want you to sit there for 8 hours tomorrow, to think what you did to that dog while you smell the odor. If you puke, you puke.”
Without thinking twice about it Alyssa took the second choice. She was to spend a whole eight hours in the nastiest dump.
Alyssa went the to the dump the next day ready to accept her punishment, which she felt was a lot better than being in jail for 90 days.
“I definitely didn’t think I’d be here [at a dump], but I’d rather be here than jail. I can’t complain.”
Sitting in the landfill, Alyssa was forced to think about how her poor, neglected dog must have felt.
Judge Cicconetti was asked about his sentencings. He said that he wants to stop small-time lawbreakers from becoming more serious criminals.
“It starts small, and it gets bigger, so my whole train of thought here is that we have to stop them or prevent them — that conduct — from going further at the beginning stages. They get in jail. They get smarter criminally, and as they get smarter criminally, the offenses become greater.”
Moose has since been taking to a shelter where he is awaiting adoption.
