With Winter Formal Approaching, Teen Decides To Take His Terminally Ill Sister To The Dance

When AJ Spader had his high school formal he wasn’t thinking about taking a girl from his class, but instead someone who meant so much to him, his 10-year-old sister Rebekah.

Rebekah suffers from Myelodysplastic syndrome, which is a potentially terminal form of bone marrow cancer. Aj wanted to do this for his sister, knowing that she might not get to experience her own formal.

“He’s thinking about his sister and she’s not going to get to go to the prom or the formal when she’s in high school because she’s probably not going to make it to high school, so he just wanted to give her that memory,” said their dad, Tony.

It’s sad to think about his sister’s terminal disease, but it sure brings joy to Aj when he gets to see his sister happy. AJ had said that he wanted “to spend as much time with her as possible while she’s still doing good.”

It was definitely a special moment between a brother and sister, and one that Rebekah will always cherish.
