One day a blind boy was sitting on the steps of a building with a hat at his feet. He was holding up a sign that said, “I am blind, please help.”

A man passed by the boy and noticed the hat had only a few coins in it. He then dropped a few coins from his pocket and into the hat. Afterwards he took the sign and wrote something on the back of it. He placed the sign back down so everyone could see what he had written, then walked away.

It didn’t take long before the hat started to fill up. More and more people were helping to young blind boy.

Later that day, the man who had changed the sign came back to check up on the boy. The boy recognized the man’s voice and asked, “Were you the one who changed my sign this morning?” and went on to say, “What did you write?”

The man said, “I only wrote the truth. I said what you said but in a different way.”

What he had written was: “Today is a beautiful day and I cannot see it.”

This goes to show that people take the things they have for granted. When the boy told people he was blind they didn’t pay much attention to him, but when he told people how fortunate they are to see a beautiful day it made them realize that they were blessed and shouldn’t be taking it for granted.

There’s a lot of bad things that happen to us in life, but the best thing to remember is that we have been blessed with life and we should celebrate that. Don’t go around feeling down about the things you don’t have, but instead be grateful for the things you do have.
