A man in Illinois is being hailed as a hero after his courageous act earlier this month. Randy Tompkins risked his own well-being by jumping into a moving car to save the driver. The driver had lost control of the car after having a seizure.
The moment was captured by a Dixon Police dash cam. Police had just arrived on scene as Tompkins got out of his truck.
Tompkins noticed that the driver swerving on the road was in clear distressed – he suspected something was wrong medically. He rushed to the aid the driver, jumping through the passenger side window to save his life:
“The driver of the truck (later identified as Dixon resident Randy Tompkins) exited his vehicle, ran up to the car and without hesitation jumped into the car through the passenger side window in an attempt to stop it,” Dixon Police said in a statement posted to Twitter. “Tompkins was able to get the car in park just as officers approached the vehicle as well.”
The driver was soon rushed to a nearby hospital, according to officials.
“We want to thank Tompkins for his heroism and for coming to a complete stranger’s aid today!” Dixon Police said on an online statement.
Tompkins admits that even long after his heroic act, he still feels a bit of a rush.
“It was crazy I saw him coming at me so I backed up real fast to the side and jumped out and jumped in his car to stop it wow my adrenaline is still going,” Tompkins wrote on Facebook.
